Venture beyond campus
Gators Explore
Whether you’re in search of fun in Downtown Gainesville or a glimpse of wildlife in their natural habitat, the Gainesville
area will entice you to go beyond the campus every now and then. Downtown is a quaint, tight-knit gathering of shops,
restaurants, theaters, and parks offering eclectic locally grown vegetables and fresh-baked pastries; original plays at
the Hippodrome State Theatre; and plenty of clubs to dance the night away. Located less than 10 miles from UF, Paynes
Prairie is one of the most biologically unique ecosystems in the southern United States. It has long served as a place to
hike and enjoy the outdoors with such diverse Florida wildlife
as alligators, more than 270 species of wild birds, and wild
horses that live within its 21,000-acre grounds.
