Every student needs a nap, and there is no better place than beneath the trees on the Plaza of the
Americas. In February 1931, the space was named in honor of the first meeting of the Institute of Inter-
American Affairs. Twenty-one trees were planted on the Plaza to honor the 21 attending nations. Today,
the Plaza serves as a free-speech zone where a number of on- and off-campus organizations gather to
share their views peacefully. The Plaza is a great place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful Florida weather.
