The UF Bat House and Bat Barn, located on Museum Road across from Lake
Alice, are the largest freestanding bat houses in North America. Each night at
dusk, observers gather on the sidewalk to witness hundreds of thousands of
Brazilian free-tailed, southeastern mouse-eared and evening bats fly silently into
the Florida sky. Be sure to venture over to the bat houses late one afternoon and
witness one of the most unusual sights on campus and in Gainesville.
