We Are the Boys
As time expires on the third quarter of every home football game,
the crowd rises to their feet to sing “
We Are the Boys.
” Linking arms,
students, alumni, and visiting Gator fans sway from side to side while
singing the following words:
We are the boys from old Florida,
F - L - O - R - I - D - A!
Where the girls are the fairest, The boys are the
squarest, Of any old state down our way (HEY!).
We are all strong for old Florida, Down where
the old Gators play (GO GATORS!).
In all kinds of weather, We’ll all stick together,
for F - L - O - R - I - D - A!
Two Bits
UF icon Mr. Two Bits led this cheer at home football games from
1949 to 2008. The man, known as Mr. Two Bits to Gators around
the world, is George Edmondson Jr. He is recognized by the signature
outfit he wore for more than 50 years: a yellow long-sleeve button-
down shirt, blue trousers, orange-and-blue-striped tie, and black and
white saddle shoes. Although Mr. Two Bits never attended UF, he
received the distinction of Honorary Alumnus in 1972.
Two bits! Four bits! Six bits! A dollar!
All for the Gators, Stand up and holler!
There’s no experience quite like being surrounded by your friends
and 90,000 other fans cheering on the Gators, especially when
we all sing “We are the Boys” going into the fourth quarter!
