UF first adopted the alligator as its official mascot in 1911. UF kept a live alligator mascot on campus in the 1950s but
later released it into Lake Alice after concerns arose about its safety. In the 1970s, UF welcomed a costumed Albert the
Alligator to campus. His female counterpart, Alberta, joined him in 1986. Whether you see them at an athletics event or
walk by their statue in front of Emerson Alumni Hall, be sure to make a Gator memory with Albert and Alberta.
