Honoring a judge

United States District Judge Stephan Mickle - who earned his Juris Doctorate at UF in 1970 - was honored by the university's Center for the Study of Race and Race Relations on March 28 to celebrate his 10 years on the federal bench.

In 1998, Mickle became the first black federal judge of the Northern District of Florida. He was also UF's first black graduate, earning his undergraduate degree in 1965, and was Alachua County's first black lawyer.
