Celebrate the Firsts!

Author: Unknown Publication Date: Thursday January 22, 2009

The University of Florida is celebrating the 50th anniversary of integration. Over the past year, many activities have taken place to commemorate this special milestone in our history. However, the celebration will culminate with a Gala on the evening of February 7th, 2009. The event will begin at 5:30 and take place at Emerson Alumni Hall. It will include a pre-reception, dinner and performances by Dr. Elizabeth Graham, Dr. Kevin Sharpe and Mr. Anthonio Canty. Join us as UF reconfirms its commitment to honor those who broke through the racial barriers and struggled to make the University of Florida reflective of all of the state’s people. For more information, visit www.urel.ufl.edu/50 or call (352) 392-1701, ext. 239.

In addition, Ms. Denyce Graves will give a Mezzo-soprano performance on February 6th and there will be an African Children’s Choir performance on February 8th, both at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. For ticket information, contact the Phillips Center box office at (352) 392-2787.
