AHA to host Hispanic Alumni Weekend Sept. 9-10

For Carlos Hondal, it’s always been about giving back. It’s why the 1982 graduate joined the UF Alumni Association as a life member. It’s why he got involved in the Association of Hispanic Alumni. And it’s why he’s helped organize events such as the Gator Guayabera Guateque, the AHA’s annual fundraising event in Miami.

“I always have been very grateful to UF for helping me grow from a young teenager to a grown man both intellectually and emotionally,” he says. “I am proud to not only be an alumnus, but proud to help UF continue to grow and play a bigger role in our lives.”

What he never expected is how much he’d get out of the experience.

“The friends I have met through the AHA and the UFAA have been friends for many years and will be friends forever,” Hondal says. “I would not have had that type of exposure to high-quality individuals if I wasn’t involved in the AHA.”

Now the AHA is offering an opportunity for other Gators to learn the joys of membership. Members from across the state will converge on Gainesville Sept. 9-10 for Hispanic Alumni Weekend. The two-day event will offer opportunities to network with other Gators, meet the incoming AHA board of directors, experience partnerships the AHA has built with groups across campus (such as the Center for Latin American Studies) and tailgate with students at La Casita.
