Distinguished Alumni Professors
The Distinguished Alumni Professor Award was originated by Bruce Flower in 1978. Bruce Flower, Robert Bryan, Steve Wilkerson, Michael Gannon and Samuel
Proctor formulated the basic plans for the award.
Selection Process
The selection committee includes current faculty, alumni and community representatives who have some connection to the University of Florida. Nominations
are solicited from alumni through the TODAY magazine, GatorNews electronic newsletter and College Deans.
Once selected the recipient will be asked to work with the Alumni Association in various programs to the degree that time permits including recruitment of National Merit
Scholars, the Outreach Program, Back to College and Distinguished Lecture Series. In return, the Alumni Association awards the recipient a $20,000 stipend, to be paid
in four installments over the two-year term, as well as support provided by the office of Academic Affairs.
