News from the UF College of Public Health and
Health Professions Alumni Office
Welcome to the January 2007 edition of PHHP E-News, an electronic newsletter designed to keep you up-to-date on college and university alumni activities and news.
OUTSTANDING ALUMNI OF THE YEAR
The college recognized six graduates at the annual Outstanding Alumni Awards on November 18: Ronald Aldrich, health services research, management and policy ’66; Arthur Collier, physical therapy ’76; Paul Deutsch, Ph.D., rehabilitation counseling ’72; Katherine Phelan, Au.D., communicative disorders ’02; Sara Sparrow, Ph.D., clinical and health psychology ’68; and Darryl Tower, occupational therapy ’75. The honorees, hosted at the HPNP Complex, attended a breakfast ceremony where they received an award and two tickets to the UF vs. Western Carolina game, which followed the award ceremony. Honorees traveled far and wide to join us for this memorable occasion, from various parts of Florida, New Mexico, Iowa and Connecticut. To see photos from the event, visit www.phhp.ufl.edu/alumni. Watch upcoming issues of PHHP News for profiles on each of the honorees.
MEET THE ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTS
The College of Public Health and Health Professions has launched "Meet the Alumni," rotating spotlights on our graduates posted on our Web site. Learn our graduates’ favorite UF memories and little-known facts about them. Visit www.phhp.ufl.edu/alumni regularly for new alumni spotlights.
CAREER DAY
The PHHP alumni office is hosting Career Day on Wednesday, Feb. 28 for PHHP students and potential employers. Is your employer interested in having the opportunity to meet with graduating students? For more information, please contact Marie Emmerson at emmerson@ufl.edu.
GO GATOR NATION
UF has launched goGatorNation.com, a new Web site that aims to highlight interesting facts about the university and its alumni in a fun and engaging way. Alumni, students and friends of the university can upload their own personal video and photos related to their experiences at UF. Other features of the site include "orange-and-blue nuggets" that spotlight contributions of the Gator Nation that many wouldn’t otherwise know, Gator Nation TV commercials, new radio spots, and a message board for alumni and friends.
LOOKING FOR A CLASSMATE?
The UF Alumni Association has a brand-new online directory. It's completely searchable and vastly expanded over the previous version. This is just one of many membership benefits. Not a member? Sign Up Online Now!!

PHHP TRIVIA QUESTION
Test your Gator knowledge with our PHHP Trivia Contest. Each e-newsletter will pose a question and the winner will receive a FREE UF Gators gift pack, which includes a PHHP tote bag, Florida Gator Plush cheerleader with Gator Fight Song, key chain and other prizes. The winner’s name will be drawn from all correct entries received on the date of the e-newsletter’s release. A grand prize drawing will be held in July 2007 for all PHHP E-News trivia contest winners throughout the year. The grand prize winner will receive two tickets to the UF football game at the 2007 PHHP Alumni Reunion!
Last issue’s question was — What percentage of UF’s entering freshmen score above the national average on standardized exams?
According to goGatorNation.com, approximately 90 percent of all entering freshmen score above the national average on standardized exams.
Congratulations to Lauren Freeman, health science '06, whose name was drawn from the correct entries.
THIS ISSUE'S QUESTION:
How tall is UF’s Century Tower?
Think you know the answer? Send it to Jill Pease at jpease@phhp.ufl.edu for your chance to win. The answer and trivia contest winner will be announced in the next edition of PHHP E-News.

TRIVIA NIGHT
Please join us on Wednesday, April 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the HPNP Auditorium for Trivia Night, a student-led fund raising event sponsored by the development and alumni affairs office. Students, faculty, staff and friends are welcome to participate by joining department teams. Trivia questions are wide-ranging and include topics such as current affairs, geography, pop culture and Gator history. Last year the department of clinical and health psychology won the title of First Trivia Night Winners. Let’s see if they can hang on to their title for 2007! This event raises money for the graduating class gift to be presented to the college at Spring commencement 2007. Admission is $5 at the door for two hours of stimulating entertainment, pizza and drinks. For further information, please contact Marie Emmerson at emmerson@ufl.edu.
