Gator Talks: Chicago
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences along with the University of Florida Alumni Association invite you to Gator Talks: Chicago, featuring faculty members Dr. Gregory Glass and Dr. Carolyn Tucker with special guest, Dean Dave Richardson. Gator Talks: Chicago is mirrored after the TED talks series and will provide a chance for each faculty member to share insight about their current research. There will also be an overall update on the state of the University to include updates on the Preeminence initiative, among other projects. Make plans to join us for time to reconnect with UF and network with other Gators in the windy city.
The event will take place on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 6:00 pm at River Roast in downtown Chicago. River Roast is located at 315 North Lasalle Street, Chicago.
Dr. Glass is a new preeminent hire with in a joint appointment in the Department of Geography and the Emerging Pathogens Institute. He specializes in medical geography. Dr. Glass' lab focuses on understanding the bases of infectious disease systems; the agents, hosts, and environmental sources. He is especially interested in characterizing how changes in environmental conditions over space and time alter the patterns of disease. These patterns often provide key clues to identify what triggers disease emergence/outbreaks and may give clues for intervention and prevention.
Dr. Tucker is a faculty member in the department of Psychology, the Florida Blue Endowed Chair in Health Disparities Research and the Richard and Thelma O. C. Barney Endowed Term Professor of Health Disparities. Additionally, she is the Director of the UF Health Disparities Research and Intervention Program which was launched in May 2010 as a university-wide program based in the College of Medicine. Dr. Tucker has 30 years of experience conducting culturally sensitive community-participatory health promotion and health care research in racial/ethnic minority and low-income communities.
