1. What is a "lifetime e-mail forwarding service" or "lifetime e-mail address"?
The University of Florida and the UF Alumni Association have teamed up to provide what is called a "lifetime e-mail forwarding service."
Essentially, this lets you have an e-mail address like yourname@alumni.ufl.edu that you can give out to your friends, family, fellow alums
or whomever else you like. This address redirects all e-mail sent to it to your regular e-mail address, which you provide during registration.
Anytime you change jobs, locations or merely your internet service provider, all you have to do is update one small form and your forwarding
address will always find you. This allows you to have one consistent e-mail address for the rest of your lifetime and Stay Connected with the
rest of the Florida family.
2. Is this an e-mail account?
No, this is merely a forwarding address. This service is intended for those who already have an e-mail account.
3. Why should I get a lifetime @alumni.ufl.edu address?
From the moment you step onto the University of Florida campus, you join the Florida family. Through a cooperative effort between the University of
Florida and the UF Alumni Association, we are providing a lifetime e-mail forwarding address to help you stay a part of that family. Once you have
signed up for your own @alumni.ufl.edu address, you'll never again have to notify your friends and family that you have yet another new e-mail address.
Any time you change jobs, locations or merely your internet service provider, all you have to do is update one small form and your forwarding address
will always find you. It's also another great way to show your Gator pride. Best of all, it's free!
4. Who can get a lifetime @alumni.ufl.edu address?
The e-mail forwarding service is open to all alumni of the University of Florida and the members of the University of Florida Alumni Association.
5. How do I choose my lifetime e-mail address?
The service allows UF alumni to choose their own lifetime e-mail address. You can choose almost any name you like. If you are a recent graduate
and you are familiar with the Gatorlink system, then this will seem familiar. If you're not, don't worry. The process is very easy. Some
suggested formats include:
| Suggested Format |
Example |
| yourname@alumni.ufl.edu |
albert@alumni.ufl.edu |
| firstname.lastname@alumni.ufl.edu |
albert.gator@alumni.ufl.edu |
| your_name@alumni.ufl.edu |
albert_gator@alumni.ufl.edu |
| yournamegradyear@alumni.ufl.edu |
albert1853@alumni.ufl.edu |
Please be aware that your first choice may not be available, so please have a few alternates picked out. Wherever possible, the service will offer
possible alternatives if your preferred address is unavailable.
6. How do I choose my password?
You should choose any secure word or sequence of characters that is easy for you to remember. However, your password should not be something that someone
could guess easily. You will need your password to log in, if you need to update your account with a new e-mail service provider.
7. What if I forget my password?
Your password is required to update your account information. If you forget your password there is a "Forgot your Password?" link on the Login screen. You will have the
ability to reset your password from that interface.
Please note: we cannot provide passwords over the phone.
8. If I changed jobs/locations/internet service providers, how do I update my account so that my mail gets forwarded properly?
Whenever you change your e-mail service, simply fill out the update form on this site with your new address and your mail will begin being forwarded there immediately.
You will need to know your @alumni.ufl.edu address and your password to log in.
9. How do I make my e-mail Reply-To address show my @alumni.ufl.edu address?
Most e-mail systems (such as Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Mail, Pegasus Mail, etc.) allow you to change the default "From" or
"Reply To..." address lines. However, each e-mail system does this differently. Please consult your manual or contact your e-mail service provider
for instructions on how to set your software to use your new @alumni.ufl.edu address as its default.
10. You say it's a "lifetime e-mail address". How do I know that this address will work 10 years from now?
This service is being offered as a cooperative effort between the University of Florida and the UF Alumni Association. The actual e-mail forwarding
takes place on the main e-mail server for the university which is housed at the NorthEast Regional Data Center (NERDC). As long as the university is
in business, so are you.
11. I don't know my alumni #, how do I get it?
If you are a UF Alumni Association Member, it will be printed on your membership card or you can use the following method.
12. Why do I need my alumni # to register?
The University of Florida has over 250,000 alumni. In order to provide instant registration for our alumni, we need some way of differentiating
one alum from another. Keep in mind that the e-mail forwarding registration site runs on a SSL-secured site to keep your information confidential.
13. I've signed up for a forwarding address, but I've changed my mind and would like a different forwarding address. Is this possible?
At this time, the forwarding address is not updateable. Each alum is allowed only one forwarding address and is to be considered permanent.
This is mentioned during the registration process.
Reminder: You will always be able to change your destination address so that your mail can be forwarded to any ISP/mail provider of your choosing.
This note refers only to the actual forwarding address itself.
